As if the smokers amongst us haven't been targeted enough recently, what with having to stand out in the rain for a quick puff with a load of other people you don't know or don't want to talk to, some smart alec has come up with another way to play with our consciences, the Coughing Ashtray.

Cunningly disguised as quite a nice looking ashtray, a sensor detects any upward movement so that when you go to pick up your fag or flick your ash, it will start to cough its lungs up. But this is no tickly cough - it's the type of cough you only hear from the old man on a bus who has obviously been smoking woodbine since the age of 6.

Although this is a great laugh and a fantastic way of mocking your mates, it is, in fact, sufficiently revolting to actually help people give up or at least cut down. So if you know a weak-willed smoker who needs that extra encouragement, or simply want a novelty item for your house, the Coughing Ash tray makes a perfect gift.
