If you’ve just bought yourself an iPhone 4, 4s, iPad, Galaxy S3 or a similar device that takes a micro sim card, then you’ll have a problem of getting your old sim card into your new device. The larger standard sim card is now being discontinued by most manufacturers and smaller sim cards for these new gadgets are being introduced. So what’s the solution to converting a sim to a micro sim card?
Well there’s a few ways of doing it:
1. Grab a micro sim card cutter and do it yourself professionally. This handy little tool will cut your old sim card to a micro sim card precisely and unlike with the scissors technique below you can’t go wrong.
2. Grab a pair of scissors and just cut around your old sim card, the only difference between the two is the amount of plastic around the chip. We do however warn you that a little cut into the chip will destroy your sim card and you’ll have to order a new one.
3. If you don’t trust yourself with either of the options above then its best to order a new micro sim card from your service provider, most will allow you to go into the store and they’ll provide you with a new micro sim card within minutes. If ordering online it take a few days to arrive. Although most service providers will do this for free some may charge.
We can highly recommend the micro sim card cutter. It works simply by placing your old sim into the micro sim cutter and pushing down hard on it (like a hole punch), you’ll then be presented with a micro sim! It’s as easy as that. Don’t worry if you want to use your newly made micro sim card in your old phone again, as it comes with an adapter allowing you to transform your micro sim back into a standard sim.

The internet, oh how much we could go on about how amazing the internet is. Honestly, we could go on for years but luckily for you we’re not here to do that. We’re here to talk to you about Wi-Fi signals and what you can do to improve the strength of your Wi-Fi signal at home or even at work. Most routers are capable of producing a strong enough signal to service a normal sized house, however if you don’t have a strong router or are lucky enough to live in a mansion then you may struggle with your Wi-Fi signal.
There are some very simple solutions to improving your Wi-Fi signal, some of which don’t require you to spend a penny. However, not all of these solutions will work for everyone so it might be worth trying a few before you throw your router out the window and put a curse on the internet.
Better Positioning
If you have a 300 metre long tunnel with a router at one end and a laptop at the other end, you’ll find that the signal strength will be strong. This is because there is nothing in the way which the signal has to travel through. We’re not saying pack your bags and move into the Blackwall tunnel, we’re saying try and clear the path for your router. The best location for your wireless router is in the centre of the house as this gives it a better chance of emitting the signal all around the building. Keep it up high too, don’t have it on the floor or behind a dense object as this could cause problems. A good place would be on top of a table or a desk which is high off the ground. Some other electrical equipment such as (but are not limited to) microwaves, baby monitors, cordless phones can cause interference with your router, so make sure they aren’t positioned next to your router.
Change the Wi-Fi Channel
Imagine you’re in a car and you have the radio on but there’s a little interference, this is usually because someone else is transmitting at the same frequency as the radio station you’re listening to. It’s kind of the same with Wi-Fi networks. In most cases, Wi-Fi routers transmit their signals on a frequency of 2.4GHz, which many other household electronics may operate on, such as baby monitors. This can cause a weak signal or may even just keep making the signal drop out thus losing your internet connection for a minute or two. Don’t worry though, there is a way you can change your Wi-Fi channel (on most routers). Just do a quick Google search with your router model number and search “How to change wireless channel on [model number]”. You should find a step by step tutorial, good luck!
If all of the above fail or have only slightly increased your signal strength, then we suggest you take a look at a Wireless Signal Repeater. These work by picking up the signal produced by your router and transmitting it again at full strength, so it’s kind of like having two routers in the house. All it requires you to do is set it up following the instructions provided and then placing it somewhere in the house half way between your router and your PC/Laptop etc. This very simple to set up wireless signal repeater will be the answer to all of your signal strength problems. This repeater also comes in use if you want to use your Wi-Fi network out in the garden or the garage.
