High-definition (HD) is the top choice in display quality at the moment and it’s no surprise. With resolutions capable of up to 1920 x 1080, HD offers a fantastic quality picture. But before any image can be displayed via HD, you will obviously need a HDMI cable. This is where things get tricky, although, should they get tricky? Why is it a common problem for people to be so strung up on which HDMI cable to buy?

Tests have shown that there is literally no visual difference between a £5 HDMI cable and a £150 HDMI Cable, so why spend more than you have too? Most electronic retailers will offer you a wide range of different priced HDMI Cables but they will try and edge you to the most expensive. Here’s a short scenario of what we’re talking about.

Imagine you don’t know a great deal about TV’s and you’re in a retailer purchasing a brand new £500 HD TV and £150 Blu-Ray Player. Lucky you ey? Next up you need a HDMI Cable and a member of staff will happily help you make your decision. Don’t be surprised when they use the common line “Well, you could buy a cheap HDMI Cable but why have two expensive HD capable products with a cheap cable connecting them?” You’re thinking that makes sense, I’ll buy the £150 cable too.

Bad move, you’ve just spent £140 more than you need to. Below are two images, try and pick which one is displayed via a cheap cable and an expensive cable

Impossible isn’t it? And this isn’t the only test. A quick Google search will show you that large online magazines have done this test and have come to the same conclusion that we have. Unless you have some form of super vision, then you will never be able to tell the difference between two HDMI Cables.

The only time when you will be able to notice a difference is when the cables start to get a bit longer. If you were to purchase a 50m HDMI cable at £10 and one at £50, chances are the £50 will be slightly better.

So there you have it, if you’re planning on moving over to HD, don’t be fooled by salesmen trying to push you towards an expensive cable as there is just no need for one.

Occasionally we get asked about how the helicopters work and what’s the difference between 2, 3, 4 and 6 channel helicopters. We figured that to make your shopping experience that little bit easier we should post this article to help you better understand RC Helicopters and how the different channels work.

2 Channel RC Helicopters: If you’re a beginner or are looking to buy an RC Helicopter for a child as a gift, then a 2 channel helicopter is the best option. 2 channel means that the helicopter can go up, down, left and right. As these helicopters are easier to fly, then they tend to be a bit safer to play with inside (depending on size of course)

3 Channel RC Helicopters: These helicopters are more suited to intermediates but beginners will pick up very quickly too. Having 3 channels enables you to go up, down, left, right, forwards and backwards. This means that you will have much more control than you would with a 2 channel. But remember, with great control comes great responsibility!

4 Channel RC Helicopters: Now this is where things get serious. 4 channel helicopters are more designed for somebody with some experience of flying RC Helicopters. It’s not advisable to give this to somebody who’s not flown before as they may break it. With 4 channel you can (deep breath) go up, down, left, right, forwards, backwards and drift from side to side.

6 Channel RC Helicopters: Unless you’re an expert or just like to throw away money, then don’t rush into the decision to purchase a 6 channel RC Helicopter. You will notice that most 6 channel helicopters are very large and very expensive so they are not to be seen as a toy. With a 6 channel you can do everything a 4 channel can as well as fly upside down. At first we weren’t quite sure why somebody would do this but as it turns out it’s pretty fun!

So, there’s the difference between channels on an RC Helicopter. In our experience, it’s not recommended that you jump from a 2 channel helicopter to a 6 channel helicopter otherwise you will most likely be stood in a field surrounded by broken helicopter parts.
