    Shop Online safely

Shopping online may not be everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re fairly new to this adventure and you want to give it a go there are things you should be looking out for when purchasing from the many online stores on the internet. The main concerns are your privacy and security of personal and card details. Here’s a list of the most important things you ought to take into consideration when buying from a particular online store:

    1. Be sure the website you are shopping on has SSL installed (secure sockets layer). This allows any personal data and credit card details you enter onto a website to be encrypted making them secure. The three things you should be looking for are:

    • An SSL logo placed somewhere on the website, this should be clickable so it opens up a digital certificate with information of the website domain and the expiration date. To see an example go to our website and scroll to the bottom, you’ll see a white GeoTrust logo on the right. Access our website here: Deviltronics.com
    • When you are on web pages where you are required to enter details such as your personal and credit card data the beginning of the URL should change from http:// to https:// in the address bar
    • Again when you are on pages where you are required to enter details such as your personal and credit card data a small yellow security lock should appear in your browser (positioning is different depending on browser). This should be clickable so you can view the digital certificate

    2. Is the company easily contactable by means of telephone, email and building address (not PO Box addresses) just in case you have a problem at a later date? Make sure the website has a clear contact us page displayed

    3. Does the company you are buying from have a fairly reasonable returns policy? Some companies charge a restocking fee if you do return for a refund, you should ask yourself ‘is this fair?’ as high street shops don’t carry this policy. Another thing to look for is if your postage costs would be reimbursed if you are returning faulty goods.

    4. Does the website have both a privacy policy and terms & conditions page? Well it should. It’s best just to whizz over these pages just to make sure you’re not tying your life into something you don’t want to.

    5. Is the product you are buying competitively priced? With the internet it’s easy to check, just open a new browser type the product name in Google and start comparing. There are also other websites designed solely for price checking, these also come in handy. Doing this may take you a couple of minutes, but it sure could save you a few bob.

    6. Are delivery costs and times reasonable? Most online shops charge a one off flat fee for standard delivery and a little more for next day delivery, others charge by weight. Companies charging for delivery is understandable as it is a cost to them, just make sure the additional cost is not through the roof.

Another thing to look out for is how long the item will take to get to you, on standard delivery it should be with you in 2 or 3 days, watch out for ‘pre-order’ items, you may be expecting something to turn up in a day or two but you could end up waiting for weeks!

There you go, your all done ready to get shopping online!
